Zoo Lights: November 24 – December 30, 2023
Take a nighttime stroll through the Smithsonian National Zoo and be dazzled by more than a half million holiday lights and immersive lantern displays. While limited animals are out during the event, there are a variety of treats, musical performances, and holiday shopping opportunities to keep everyone thoroughly entertained. There is a $6 per-person admission fee this year.

Visit the National Christmas Tree: November 30 – December 30, 2023
The National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony is a unique experience you can only have in D.C., and while the entry for lottery tickets to attend the actual lighting ceremony closed November 8, you can visit the tree all season. While you’re there, peruse the handmade ornaments from across the country, walk the Pathway to Peace to enjoy 58 trees honoring each state and U.S. territory, and grab a hot cocoa.
Christmas in Middleburg: December 2, 2023
Rain or shine, this 100-year tradition includes a mile-long parade; shopping; caroling; a Christmas pageant; a tree lighting; food, wine, and spirits; and more. It’s free to attend (with charges for food, drink, and other on-site purchases), though advance-purchase parking is available.

National Menorah Lighting: December 7, 2023
Join thousands near the White House to celebrate the start of Chanukah with the annual lighting of the National Menorah, a tradition that’s been celebrated since 1979. While the actual Menorah will remain throughout Chanukah, this year’s lighting celebration will take place on December 7 and will feature musical performances, special guests, and more.

Step Afrika!’s Magical Musical Holiday Step Show: December 8 – 17, 2023
Join DJ Nutcracker and furry friends Popper the Penguin and Polo the Polar Bear from the Arctic Kingdom in this holiday performance that celebrates African American stepping. This lively performance is sure to delight guests of all ages.

Eastport Yacht Club Lights Parade: December 9, 2023
Head to the Annapolis Harbor from 6 – 8 p.m. on December 9 for a nighttime waterfront parade featuring decorated boats filled with holiday illuminations. The event has grown each year since it originated in the 1980s, and there are numerous spots along the waterfront to get a great view.
