While the D.C. metro is filled with history, the area continues to grow and evolve in new ways. There’s tons to do for residents of every age, and new stores, restaurants, and entertainment options are constantly emerging. Although the year is young, it’s already starting strong. Here are a few of the confirmed and potential upcoming newcomers to Fairfax County we’re excited about this year.
New entertainment options for 2024
Virtual reality experience
Sandbox, a virtual reality (VR) game space, is known throughout the country for its cutting edge games and technology. Join the fun at its newest location in McLean, Virginia. Unlike many VR spaces that operate off headset technology alone, Sandbox places each player in their own motion-tracking suit to fully immerse them in each game with precise, lifelike movements.
Live performance
Located in Vienna, Virginia, Wolf Trap has been a cornerstone of Fairfax County’s live entertainment scene for nearly 60 years. The venue has hosted countless acts, ranging from well-known A-list performers to comedians, dance troupes, and emerging artists. This summer, Wolf Trap will open Meadow Commons, a new multi-functional facility replacing the original concessions stand built in 1971. Enjoy your next show even more with expanded dining options, improved restrooms, and beautiful picnic terraces.

Wines on tap
Check out one of the Reston Town Center’s newest residents, Sixty Vines. Based out of Texas, Sixty Vines has nine locations throughout the country. Each boasts a curated collection of 60 wines on a sustainable tap system, along with a full menu that includes an array of sandwiches, salads, pizzas, charcuterie and cheese boards, and more. Sample your way across the menu and taps; it’s certain you won’t run out of new options any time soon.
Fine dining and cocktails
Explore fine dining and beautifully made handcrafted cocktails at The Maple Room, a new addition to Vienna’s downtown area. Opened in late 2023, the restaurant concept showcases global flavors through a carefully curated menu featuring locally sourced ingredients. The interior is both welcoming and elevated, creating a beautiful dining experience for all.
New fitness options for 2024
Climbing, yoga, and more
Slated to open in late 2024, Movement Fairfax is currently under construction. The massive facility—more than 37,000 square feet of space—will feature climbing walls and terrain, yoga classes, cardio and weight areas, and more.
On the horizon…D.C.’s first casino?
This one is anything but confirmed, but the prospect could bring new performers and gaming to the Reston and Tysons Corner area of the county via a casino that would be a first within the proximate D.C. metro.
A bill has been introduced and already undergone voting, and it continues to move throughout the required reviews and referendums. Time will tell whether it comes to fruition, but the prospect is intriguing.
