We’ve heard it time and time again: Bathrooms and kitchens sell houses. But the mark on what’s trending seems to be forever moving. Here are 10 bathroom trends we’ve seen pick up in popularity over this year that we’re loving.
1. Light, but not white
It’s been a few years since the white-on-white kitchen and bathroom began their slow exit, but the trend remains steady. Light tones—think ivories, light grays, etc.—are still popular and are likely to remain so for the foreseeable future. We’re also seeing not-quite pastel shades of light greens and pinks.
2. Bold color
If you like a color, go for it. Bold accent walls in powder rooms are trending on numerous design sites, as are bold-hued vanities and color pops throughout accents, such as bright-colored jars, soap holders, and hand towels. If there’s a shade you love, don’t be afraid of it.
3. Freestanding tubs
Gone are the days of built-in jacuzzi tubs (though let’s be honest, we still love those, too). Freestanding tubs are having more than a moment. And with their clean lines, deep soaking potential, and lack of dust-collecting surfaces, it’s easy to see why.
4. Hello, earth tones
It’s been several years since the “invite the outdoors in” movement started picking up, and it’s still going strong. Wood-toned vanities have made a comeback, and while lighter shades have the popular vote, darker tones are starting to make an appearance, too. Wood vanity not your thing? Bring in wood accents and shelving and try the vanity in your favorite shade of green.
5. Use texture
From floor tiles to shower tiles to wood slatted accent walls behind a freestanding tub, texture is the name of the game. Pick a spot in your bathroom and showcase a bold tile, or layer more subtle textures together for a signature space.
6. Anything but solid tiles
White subway tile had its day, but modern bathrooms are all about anything but. Geometric shaped tiles, tiles that join together to make a statement pattern, and large marble slabs are just a few popular ways to bring interest into your space.
7. Seamless showers
Seamless showers are beautiful and have a way of making a space seem bigger. In 2023, we’re seeing them take their next step, with many eliminating the step-in curb all together.
8. Statement walls
Though they look a bit different depending on exactly which bathroom we’re talking about, statement walls are in as a whole. In powder rooms, bold print wallpaper remains on trend. In master baths, calming wood accents, bold marble veining, and large-format geometric tile are proving their ability to make a big impression in a positive way.
9. Bidets
Formerly found in Europe, the bidet has been gaining traction in North America for some time. It may take a moment to accept, but those who have installed them swear by them.
10. Next-level oasis
Though not fully mainstream, home builders and homeowners alike continue to find new ways to take bathrooms to the next level. From mini fridges built into closets and vanities to towel warmers and chandeliers, there’s no level of comfort and glamor that’s considered “too much.”
