When we think about our later years, we likely have a few expectations. Chances are we’ll expect a less regimented schedule and more time to enjoy leisurely pursuits and hobbies. We anticipate a changing body and a few more visits to the doctor. And we hope that, while our bodies may age, our minds will stay young.
However, this is often not the case. While 65 percent of seniors ages 65-70 find it “very easy” to live independently, only 43 percent of those over age 70 do so, according to AgingInPlace.org. And although AARP finds that 87 percent of adults over age 65 want to age in place, the associated costs to make it a safe option, paired with evolving needs, prevent it from being a feasible option for many. Mending this gap is exactly what one area senior living community aims to do.
Sunrise of McLean Village is an upcoming boutique senior living community located on Chain Bridge Road in McLean, Virginia. Opening for move-ins early 2023, the community continues the Sunrise tradition more than 40 years in the making of providing personalized care to meet each individual’s changing needs.
“We really specialize in the concept of living your best life,” shared Maureen Davis, executive director of Sunrise of McLean Village. “Our residents have worked hard their whole lives. We want to give them the best possible experience, which means taking a personalized approach to services. Choices and options are key themes throughout their experience. We’ll adapt our services based on what each individual needs to ensure every resident can thrive in place.”
Age in place comfortably
To provide care to residents with a variety of needs and preferences, Sunrise of McLean Village will showcase a variety of floorplans alongside thoughtful features and offerings. To cater to individualized needs in a way that maintains a comfortable, homey feel throughout its community, it needed to take its design considerations to the next level.
“The design element really sets Sunrise apart from other senior living communities. We have an award-winning design team that focuses on creating spaces for seniors with the intention of traditional meeting modern—to marry form and function in a way that’s beneficial to seniors,” said Davis. “For example, older adults need 30 percent more light to see than the younger population, so our design team incorporated taller windows into our suites to let in more natural light. We also increased overhead lighting throughout suites and recessed lighting throughout the community.”
The lighting is just the beginning. Ceiling heat lamps in bathrooms provide additional light and warmth, while adapted faucets ensure ease of use regardless of common issues, such as arthritis. Enhanced display thermostats with user-friendly buttons and interfaces ensure residents have full control of their environments with ease. Additional features are incorporated throughout each apartment and community wide.
Integrated care at every level
The top floor, dedicated to memory care, will provide residents a dedicated life enrichment manager and access to a variety of sensory and enrichment experiences. While the floor will have additional features built in for resident safety, the community was built to integrate services, safety, and scalability throughout the service and residential areas.
Hidden elevator doors ensure daily living is not disturbed. There are no large medicine carts or loud delivery schedules. Concierge services are available for everything from prescription refills and delivery to pet walking and in-home bathing and hygiene support.
The approach to care ensures every resident has access to the care they need—discreetly—and the care can adapt as residents’ needs change.
Enhanced amenities, right at home
Residents can choose from a variety of floorplans, budget, and priorities. Every unit includes thoughtful features, beautiful design, and access to amazing community amenities.
Many of the units overlook the Heritage Park’s water features and gazebos. This collaboration with the McLean Historical Society offers a private resident park with an accompanying public park for extended views and enjoyment.
Entertain friends and family in the parlor. Enjoy quietly reading in the library. Grab a pre-dinner cocktail with friends in the bistro. Check out the social calendar for ongoing fitness, social, and entertainment opportunities. Spend time with the community pets or walk your own through the beautiful outdoor spaces.
The options are endless and ensure that every future resident can enjoy life safely and joyfully in the way they choose. For more information or to lock in advantageous pre-open pricing, visit SunriseMcLeanVillage.com or call 703-214-4419.
